7 Hawaiian Principles To Change Your Life, No. 5: Love

Text from the series “Holistic Healing Chronicles: Nourishing Your Body, Mind, and Soul for Lasting Wellness” by Nisarga Eryk Dobosz.

Greetings to all fellow seekers of healing and self-discovery!

In the intricate tapestry of human existence, one common thread unites us all – the pursuit of love, intimacy, and connection. The essence of being human lies in the reciprocal dance of giving and receiving love. Embracing this universal truth, Hawaiian tradition encapsulates the spirit of love in the word “ALOHA,” which means: ”To love is to be happy with.” The recognition that happiness is intrinsically tied to love underscores the significance of cultivating a heart connection in our lives.

Embarking on a spiritual journey often stems from the innate human desire for intimacy and connection. As individuals seek to contribute and share their unique gifts, the heart emerges as the emperor within, orchestrating a constant quest for purification and alchemy. The heart, akin to a magician, transforms pain and suffering into love and joy, illuminating the path toward enlightenment.

When our hearts are wired for connection, we radiate with light and joy, casting a bright and shining auric field that draws others toward us. This heightened state of being is akin to a divine connection, where the heart space aligns us with our essence and brings about a sense of fulfillment.

Despite the inherent yearning for love, individuals often create strategies to disconnect from the heart. Fear, the antithesis of love, may prompt the development of defense mechanisms in response to past heartaches and rejections. From judgment and criticism to rationalization and reliance on external substances or activities, these strategies become shields against vulnerability and pain.

Recognizing these disconnecting strategies is crucial for reclaiming our heart space. Courageously staying vulnerable and showing up for love and compassion, both for ourselves and others, becomes the key to healing. The journey back to the heart involves acknowledging past hurts and rejections, fostering self-love, and extending forgiveness.

From the space of self-love, we can extend compassion to others, understanding that everyone is unique and complete just as they are. It involves seeing the divine in others and the poetry of the world around us. This compassionate recognition allows us to embrace the imperfections and unique qualities that make each individual a miraculous expression of life.

A powerful expression of love is through touch. Our hands serve as extensions of the heart, and intentional touch can convey love and kindness. Whether touching a beloved, a friend, or a client, sharing the state of love through physical connection becomes a profound gift.

Today, let’s challenge ourselves to share love in various ways. Whether through words of appreciation, present eye contact, loving touch, giving flowers, or sharing hugs, there are countless ways to contribute to the world’s well-being. By cultivating courage and expressing love to others and ourselves, we create a ripple effect that spreads positivity and joy.

In the journey of life, the pursuit of love and connection remains a constant. Embracing the wisdom of Aloha, we recognize that to love is to be happy with. By nurturing our heart connection, we not only rediscover our essence but also contribute to the collective well-being of humanity. Today, let’s take a step towards a more connected world – start with five hugs and watch the transformative power of love unfold.
